Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor and Delivery position requiring AWHONN Intermediate certification and 2 years of L&D experience, offering night shifts at a high-volume academic medical center.

Details

• Labor and Delivery unit within a teaching hospital medical center
• High-volume unit averaging 2,000 deliveries annually
• 8 private labor rooms, 4 private triage beds, and 2 OB operating rooms
• Patient population includes low-risk care with certified nurse midwives and high-risk maternal fetal medicine cases
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Expected to cross-train to Mother/Baby unit
• May float to NICU for feeder/grower patients
• Floating required within scope of practice as needed

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
• BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate certifications required
• ACLS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• BSN preferred
• Fetal monitoring experience required, including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Experience with magnesium sulfate therapy and postpartum hemorrhage care preferred
• Circulating for C-sections and newborn assessment skills preferred
• Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery care including antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum services
• Perform newborn assessments and assist with circumcision site care
• Support neonatal resuscitation and care in the delivery room
• Assist with triage of obstetrical patients
• Care for patients following baby-friendly protocols
• Assignment length of 18 weeks with potential extension through January 2027
• Maximum 40 hours of requested time off per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of consideration
• Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed in advance
• Candidates must complete up to 16 non-billable hours of specialty-specific modules during orientation
• Previous UVA Health permanent staff or traveler employment requires 1-year separation and leadership approval
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
