Position Overview The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Shabbona Lake State Park for the Office of Land Management. This position will use their skills to perform routine tasks in the operation, mainteance, and improvement of site grounds and satelite locations. This will include repairs to vehicles and equipment, maintenance of buildings and grounds, and tasks related to outdoor recreational program. Shabbona Lake State Park is 1,550 acres located in Shabbona Township, Dekalb county. Shabbona Lake is a man-made lake created in 1975 and contains a 15-acre seasonal nesting area for migratory waterfowl. Essential Functions Under direction, participates in the maintenance and improvedments to all site structures, facilities, grounds, trails, waterways, day use areas at Shabbona Lake State Park and its satellite locations Participates in site grounds maintenance Maintains site vehicles and equipment Cleans and disinfects restrooms and shower buildings Assists in implementing safety and security programs at the site Issue and collects fees for camping permits and licenses Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or operation of heavy equipment and machinery Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping Employment Conditions Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. Requires appropriate, valid Driver's license Ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds Ability to lift, carry and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification The conditions of employment listed here are incoporated and related to any of the job duties as listed in the job description Agency and Division Statements Agency Statement Charged with preserving, protecting and promoting Illinois’ natural and cultural resources, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites – and everything in between.
