Job Summary And Responsibilities As our Unit Coordinator, you will be a vital caregiver and central hub, assuming responsibility for patient care processes from newborn to geriatric for a designated time frame. You will directly contribute to safe, therapeutic patient care while serving as the primary receptionist and secretary. Every day you will support safe patient care through multidisciplinary processes and coordinating unit activities. You will efficiently manage information flow and assist healthcare team members in delivering care across all patient age groups. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, a proactive approach to managing day-to-day operations, and a commitment to providing safe, therapeutic care while working effectively with the entire healthcare team. Perform receptionist and support duties at the assigned unit; handle incoming and outgoing communications, transfer calls appropriately, greet and assist visitors, and answer questions in accordance with established procedures. Greet and assist all customers, physicians, patients, visitors, and employees in a friendly and timely manner. Facilitate and direct communication among visitors, employees, and physicians within the assigned work area. Assist physicians in locating patients, staff, and information. Maintain and update phone list/rolodex/database. Access and use MSO.Net as needed. Schedule appointments, tests, etc.; dispatch messages to other departments. Welcome patients to the unit for room set up, show videos, if applicable, orient to phones, television, and dietary ordering. Assist staff as necessary with securing patients’ personal belongings and valuables for safekeeping, ensuring proper documentation is completed. Make follow-up appointments for patients. Assist with gathering patient information. Monitor and respond promptly to call lights per unit standard. Communicate patient information, concerns, or issues to appropriate interdisciplinary team members. Assist and follow up with non‑nursing requests such as dietary or environmental services, coordinate supplies, equipment repairs, and special bed service requests. Assist with all admissions, discharges, transfers, and changes within the unit. Maintain a neat and organized work environment; order, stock, and replenish supplies and equipment as necessary; identify and report problems with supplies or equipment; enter equipment repair requests in the system, tag equipment, and remove it from service. Verify, order, and stock supplies as needed. Maintain order in the unit on a regular basis. Clean and return charts and clipboards to appropriate places. Clean equipment and return it to appropriate locations. Assist in maintaining the overall appearance of the unit. Initiate work orders for repairs and maintenance with appropriate follow‑up. Label and report defective equipment and safety hazards. Clean keyboards according to protocol. Job Requirements Completion of a recognized Unit Secretary Program (or coursework in a related field) or six months of recent related work experience, preferably in a medical setting, upon hire.
