Financial Aid Advisor II

Financial Aid Advisor II Position in Financial Aid, under the supervision of the Assistant Director, with primary responsibility for student‑focused service and guidance regarding student aid programs, educational funding options, and the financial aid application process. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and university policies while providing efficient access to financial aid. Responsibilities Provide student financial aid counseling in the Enrollment Service Center, including meeting with students, answering phone calls, and assisting enrollment service advisors. Facilitate student financial aid file review, assist students and families in navigating financial aid applications, and review awards for accuracy and compliance. Interpret and communicate details of federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to financial aid, student employment, and scholarships. Maintain knowledge of major programs and establish administrative procedures to ensure proper processing and documentation of awards. Assist associate directors in revising and approving the awarding of financial aid through program controls and guidelines; make adjustments when necessary. Process Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals and determine validity of appeals in accordance with SAP policy. Review and process Professional Judgment requests. Assist associate directors with internal audit controls. Participate in committees such as Audit, Forms, PPM/SOP, Technology, Testing, Training/Professional Development, SAP, and Social/Retreat. Assist monitoring the over‑award resolution process and resolve over‑award problems within Banner. Develop effective working relationships with administrative and academic support offices (e.g., Admissions, Registrar’s Office, Student Business Services). Conduct on‑campus and off‑campus presentations and seminars for students, including high school, prospective, admitted, and current students; events may include Future Jaguar Day and Paying for College. Work at resource tables for student groups and other requests. Maintain punctual attendance and complete all components of financial aid administration (verification, awarding, loan certification, etc.) accurately and timely. Complete assigned goals, tasks, and projects accurately and in a timely manner. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field. One year of related experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency with common software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet tools. Knowledge of financial aid systems such as Banner. Federal Student Financial Aid experience at a previous educational institution. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with internal and external constituents. Strong oral and written communication skills. Well‑developed public presentation skills. Self‑starter with initiative. Detail and goal‑oriented. Organizational and decision‑making abilities. Customer‑service skills. Ability to work individually or as part of a team. Ability to relate well with students. Other Requirements Some evening and weekend work may be required.
