SALARY: $20 per hour SCHEDULE : 25 hours; Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, and some weekends as needed START DATE: October 2026 JOB SUMMARY: Maintenance of areas used by the BEST Program (i.e. offices, activity rooms, reception, rest rooms, hallways, kitchen and kitchen equipment, pantry, backyard/ garden and garbage disposal areas). - High School Diploma or GED required
- Previous custodial and/or maintenance experience
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 25lbs
- Strong communication skills with staff and program participants
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Chinese preferred, but not required
- Ability to work independently and proactively address maintenance needs
- Reliable attendance and punctuality, with flexibility to meet program scheduling needs
- Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems (S-95)
- Perform general maintenance and daily upkeep of the entire program site
- Maintain the kitchen, activity rooms, office equipment, and backyard; shovel snow during winter months
- Collect trash daily
- Sweep and mop floors daily
- Sweep, buff, strip, and wax program floors quarterly
- Transport materials to designated recycling areas
- Receive and inspect food and supply deliveries for the BEST Program as needed
- Store food and supply deliveries, ensuring no damaged or spoiled goods
- Monitor and log refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily
- Monitor and log fire alarm system status daily
- Maintain and clean program equipment
- Serve as liaison with NYCHA regarding maintenance requests, repairs, and ticket tracking
- Assist with setup and breakdown for special events
- Assist with food pantry packaging and support Older Adult Services as needed
- Assist with food pantry delivery to homebound participants and conduct facility home visits if needed
- Provide maintenance support for weekend events as required
- Remain available during work hours and after hours for emergency situations (e.g., leaks, flooding, fire)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director
