This position is a full-time opportunity located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL.This position is contingent upon contract award and supports Battelle's National Security Business Unit in delivering Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Airfield Protection, Installation Resiliency, and Blast (APIRB) in support of the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center.Active areas of research include but are not limited to: Blast and Ballistic Protection Systems Evaluation; Mitigation of Internal Blast Effects; Protective Concepts and Systems Against Forced Entry; Protective Systems for Infrastructure and Asset Survivability Against Cased Munitions; and Blast and Ballistic Protection for Guided Munitions.ResponsibilitiesAs a Blast Research Engineer, the selected individual will conduct RDT&E efforts in support of U.S. Air Force programs focused on blast effects and protective systems. Responsibilities may include:Design experimentation procedures for the evaluation of test systems, including instrumentation setup and data collection from field testingDevelop test plans, experimentation protocols, and technology assessment studies, and lead technical projects from inception through completionApply engineering research and analysis expertise to understand explosive blast effects and blast mitigation at full scale, reduced scale, and through modeling and testingPerform RDT&E of moderate complexity by compiling technical specifications, analyzing technical data, determining appropriate analysis methods, identifying problems, and developing and implementing solutionsAnalyze and interpret collected data; prepare technical reports and deliver both formal and informal presentations to clientsKey QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or similar discipline)Minimum of 5 years of experience related to research and development programsStrong structural engineering backgroundProactive, self-starting work style with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environmentPositive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challengesExcellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skillsCandidate must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearancePreferred QualificationsExperience with explosive blast effects and full-scale and reduced-scale modeling and testingFamiliarity with high-speed cameras, instrumentation, and data analysis techniquesBackground in or understanding of blast mitigation strategies and protective system designCompensation DataBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $65,000 – $85,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
