Schedule

* Three 12-hour shifts * Weekends and holidays as needed * Relief shifts available!

Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities

* Properly restrain animals * Obtain a thorough history from pet owner * Accurately measure and record each patient's weight and basic vitals (temp, pulse rate, and respiratory rate) * Assist in anesthesia induction and patient prep for surgical procedures * Clean and prep surgical packs and supplies * Efficiently set up, turn over and break down OR and prep areas * Understand triage and follow hospital policies regarding critical patients. * Using aseptic procedures, draw up injections for doctors or technicians to administer * Properly package and store samples as needed * Assist with routine exam room procedures * Monitor patients' behavior * Maintain a positive attitude, work well and collaboratively as a team. be able to work well under pressure * Ability to multitask and produce efficiently under a heavy workload * Assist in maintaining inventory and alert supervisor of items that are running low * Maintain adequate interdepartmental communications regarding patient care and client issues

Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent * Experience working with animals, preferably in an emergency and specialty hospital * Strong teamwork and communication skills * Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary environment
