The RN practices professional nursing as a registered nurse within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The professional role of the RN is exemplified by the qualities of leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes. The RN provides care that establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family; integrates cultural and diverse perspectives into practice; communicates and works collaboratively with the patient, family and health‑care team; and respects the patient’s values, preferences, expressed needs and knowledge in holistic data collection, outcome formulation, and evaluation. It involves collecting pertinent data, analyzing assessment data to determine diagnoses, identifying expected outcomes, developing and modifying a plan of care, implementing the plan, coordinating care delivery, promoting health in a safe environment, and evaluating progress toward outcomes. Standards of Professional Performance: RN is expected to engage in professional role activities, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, research, quality evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN practices ethically, delivers culturally inclusive care, communicates effectively, collaborates with stakeholders, leads within the professional setting, seeks knowledge and competence, integrates evidence and research into practice, contributes to quality nursing practice, evaluates own and others' practice, utilizes resources wisely, and practices in an environmentally safe and healthy manner. Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred. All newly hired registered nurses must have current BCLS certification or obtain it within one month of hire. Experience: Registered Nurse is the foundational job description for all RNs. All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program. Licensure: Licensed and currently registered in the State of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification is highly encouraged. Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, walking; use of sight, hearing, and touch. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Will be exposed to physical, mental, and emotional illness as well as end‑of‑life circumstances and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care. Standing and walking for more than half of the day. Frequently bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting.
