Fitter Repairman

Fitter Repairman perform general fitting and repair work across shipboard systems and structures, supporting multiple trades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and fittings) to ensure safe, reliable, and visually appealing vessel operations for guests and crew. Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, measure, fit, assemble, install, align, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry components as needed.
• Fabricators modify components; drill, rivet, bolt, seal, and install replacements or upgrades; weld (MIG/TIG if certified) where required.
• Restore or upgrade fixtures and fittings across decks, cabins, public areas, galleys, and mechanical spaces to maintain guest comfort and safety.
• Assisting in installation or modification of equipment and systems; coordinate with other trades to ensure proper integration.
• Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on pumps, valves, lighting, doors, hinges, metalwork, and basic structural elements.
• Assisting dry-dock projects and major refurbishments, support other trades during complex restorations or upgrades.
• Provide professional guests and crew support for repair-related concerns; respond promptly and courteously to inquiries.

Qualifications & Training:

• Experience mechanical fitting, metal fabrication, electrical, carpentry, or equivalent; minimum 2-4 years in a related role.
• Valid welding/fitting certification
• Practical experience with multi-trade repairs and use of common hand and power tools; basic welding may be advantageous.
• Knowledge of stainless steel, steel, and aluminium components used in marine environments, understanding of corrosion prevention.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic, shipboard environment.
• Experience of vessels or in hospitality/hotel interior maintenance.
• Familiarity with rigging, lifting operations, and basic welding (MIG/TIG) for marine application.

Language Requirements:

• Ability to read and write in English to understand and interpret written work orders and safety procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and crew; effective interpersonal skills.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Physical: Regularly perform manual labour; able to stand, walk, and use hands to manipulate tools; capable of lifting to 50 pounds.
• Vision: Adequate vision to read gauges, manuals, and work orders; depth perception for precise tasks.
• Environmental: Work on board a vessel in various weather and sea conditions; exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment; must wear appropriate PPE and be prepared for shift work or on-call needs; able to operate in confined spaces and at heights as required. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and communication abilities is expected to perform duties effectively.
