About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required License: Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Experience with ventriculostomy, NIH Stroke Scale Certification, ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, tPA, acute stroke management, and post-craniectomy care. - Required to titrate drips as per physician orders. - Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitors. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro ICU setting. The unit has a total of 18 beds and the nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. Common diagnoses include ventriculostomy patients, strokes with and without TPA, and post-craniectomy care. Nurses will be required to manage ventilators and arterial lines. A Charge Nurse or House Supervisor will be present on each shift. The Charge Nurse may take a patient assignment based on staffing needs. The unit has nursing aides/patient care techs available, with a ratio of 9:1. Registered Nurses are also required to troubleshoot respiratory therapist equipment. Telemetry technicians are available, but nurses are responsible for reading their own strips. Weekend work is required every other weekend and holiday coverage is rotating every other holiday. Nurses may float to different units in the hospital as needed, including intermediate and general floors. Unit-specific orientation will be provided to ensure familiarity with protocols and procedures.
