Manager, Shipping & Receiving

Job Summary This position is responsible for managing all shipping and receiving activities including orders ready to ship, carrier assignments, final order approval, supervising the loading and unloading of trucks, and tracking inbound/outbound trucks. Supervises the movement, receiving, distribution, and storage of materials. The role also manages the staff of the Shipping and Receiving department, including loaders, drivers, and specialists. Duties and Responsibilities Directly coordinate all activities associated with the shipping and receiving department, including: Daily interaction with Production Supervisors to determine orders ready to ship and instruct staff on all shipments to fulfill. Instruct staff on all materials scheduled to be received. Clear all orders on ship hold with the credit department. Confirm and group multiple orders that need to ship together. Determine shipping method (LTL or flatbed) based on material/load size, customer preference, and cost. LTL shipments: identify preferred carriers based on cost, geography, and timeliness. Flatbed shipments: identify preferred carriers based on cost, geography, and timeliness. Supervise and inspect loading and unloading of trucks. Identify orders based on order forms. Manage freight claims. Receive purchase orders for buyout material to be shipped to customers. Train and develop team members. Participate in safety meetings and work with EHS teams to implement safety initiatives and training. Conduct accident and near‑miss investigations, ensuring incident reports are completed accurately and timely. Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent relationship and communication skills for working with sales, vendors, drivers, customers, and facility leadership. Strong leadership and supervisory skills. Knowledge and certification of forklift operations. Understanding of warehouse layout, product codes, lot numbers, and inventory management. Complete understanding of stock status and shipping orders. Ability to manage multiple tasks and initiatives in a constantly interrupted environment while ensuring priorities are met. Knowledge of the construction industry and/or experience with ERP systems such as SAP preferred. Outstanding verbal, written, interpersonal, problem‑solving, phone, and time‑management skills. Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word. Education and Experience Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of two years of leadership/supervisory experience, shipping and receiving experience, and forklift experience. Working Conditions Office environment and warehouse setting. Hours worked: Monday – Friday. Physical Requirements Occasionally: Lifting 1–10 lbs, pushing or pulling 1–40 lbs, bending or stooping, reaching, walking, standing, sitting. Frequently: Lifting 11–20 lbs, pushing or pulling 41–50 lbs, etc. Continuously: Lifting 51 lbs or more, operating machinery, climbing ladders or stairs, working in extreme temperatures. PPE Used Eye protection on the production floor. Safety toe shoes (steel or composite) on the production floor. Other PPE as defined by management within the assigned department. Location Onsite at 6198 W Airport Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $71,093 – $127,967.
