Job Description:\n\nJOB SUMMARY: \nUnder the oversight of the Plant Supervisor/Operations Manager, the Combination Services Technician performs functions that align with the Data Services Tech. This includes installation and maintenance of telecommunications services, cabling, customer premise equipment (CPE), field equipment and terminals. Responsibilities extend to troubleshooting, isolating, and performing the necessary repairs on defective equipment in the network. Perform installation and assist with maintenance functions. Information Technology (IT) services, battery testing, carrier systems, and assisting with non-regulated equipment. Responsible for locating underground cable plants and utilities in a timely manner. Coordinates with other departments on service installations and updates changes for company records (billing, facility, etc.). Documenting and completing project related forms on all installations and repair services rendered. Monitors alarm systems to maintain equipment, and communicate updates, changes or problems to key contacts and impacted customers. This role participates in a scheduled on-call rotation / emergency response during evenings and weekend hours. Remaining in the coverage area and being available to respond and perform work outside of normal business hours is required while on call. Work-related travel is expected in this position as necessary. \n \nDifferentiated from the Data Service Technician role, the Combination Services Technician provisions equipment for service orders and troubleshoots subscriber systems. Performing advanced troubleshooting and administering repairs on a variety of components (switching / transmission / alarm network equipment, wireless systems, standby generators, fiber equipment, voice frequency repeaters, loop extenders, and cable loading systems). This role also coordinates the servicing of remote building repairs (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building/site maintenance services). \n \nESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: \n\nInstall and Transfer Services: \nPerforms installation of new services for voice, data, special circuits, ethernet, as well as other non-regulated services Range offers. \nReview staking sheets or maps to install services designed by Network Engineer. \nPerform work with the appropriate tools / hardware to meet applicable codes and safety requirements. \nInstallation and maintenance: \nServices: Voice, broadband, special circuits, ethernet, and other customer premise services provided by Range. \nCabling: Install, repair and maintain copper or fiber cables in an aerial or buried application and terminate cables using industry standards. \nInstall subscriber carrier systems, including digital, analog, and next generation carrier systems. \nAbility to work aloft. \nNetwork interface devices. \nInstall DC power plant and associate cabling systems. \nInstall batteries and/or battery banks in data centers, communications huts and remote cabinets. \nNetwork devices: Modems, routers, and wireless devices. \nMay be asked to assist Managed Services with site surveys, installation, and trouble repairs. \nRepair and Maintain equipment: \nPerform repairs on defective buried cables and may excavate existing copper or fiber cables, as required, to repair damaged or aging facilities. Assigned to locate / mark telecommunication facilities in the area and set up safety precautions in preparation for digging. \nPerform repairs on aerial cable with the use of ladders or bucket trucks and set up safety precautions as needed. \nCoordinate with other technical personnel to diagnose or identify and locate defective equipment. Must be able to read and interpret cable schematics. Required to make repairs or work with other personnel to ensure repairs have been made and network stability is restored. \nPerform repairs in access /transport carrier systems and other department related equipment utilizing specialized test equipment. \nUtilize copper and fiber testing equipment to analyze and identify areas needing upgrades or repairs. \nBattery testing and maintenance in data centers, communication shelters and remote carrier systems \nPerform basic building maintenance and repairs to include HVAC systems and generators. Coordinate repairs with a professional contractor if the extent of repairs is beyond the technical ability required for the position. \nData Center Equipment assignments include but are not limited to: \nInstallation, repair, and maintenance of: \nSwitching / fiber / transmission and transport / alarm network / broadband equipment. \nEthernet and special circuits. \nStandby generators. \nVoice frequency repeaters, and loop extenders. \nPower board (DC) and cable loading systems in compliance with Company standards. \nData Center / network environment standards documentation. \nLocates underground cable plant and utilities in support of construction activities, rebuilds and existing upgrades. Marks located utilities according to set standards. Responsible for interpreting system maps (paper and electronic) to accurately locate underground facilities. Assists in correcting system mapping information when discrepancies are discovered while performing locates by reporting the finds to supervisor and/or Engineering. \n\nProfessionally communicate with customers, suppliers, manufacturers, and technical support to further determine problems and acceptable resolutions. \nPaperwork and records: Professionally complete all installation and repair-related forms and reports. File and submit within assigned timeframes. \nCommunicate with other departments on service installations/repairs and advise on necessary updates for billing, facility records, and other company files. \nInstall wireless equipment including point-to-point wireless systems, wireless access points, security cameras, and wiring for any additional associated equipment. \nMonitor alarm systems to maintain equipment and communicate problems that affect company operations / services and the impact of customers. \nMeeting and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations across all areas of this role’s functions are an expectation and key objective. \n Must follow all company safety policies / procedures and always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). \nUphold and demonstrate your commitment to Range’s values in everything you do. Be Innovative-Create the environment where we continually improve and adapt, Be Kind—Our actions make a difference, Be Trustworthy—Do the right thing, take responsibility for our actions, and honor our commitments, and Be United—People are our purpose; unified teams build the strongest networks. \nPerform various other functions and duties as assigned. \n\n \nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION): (A combination of demonstrable years’ experience and applicable alternative training(s) may be considered in lieu of the following qualifications). \n\nSuccessful completion of a High School diploma program or GED curriculum / exam (12th grade equivalent) or any other state recognized secondary education program. \n\nA minimum of 5 years of work experience performing telecommunications data services related functions. \n\nA valid, state-issued, and insurable driver’s license. \n\nNOTE: Some areas may require pole and tower climbing certificates which will be outlined during offer of position. \n \nPreferred: Completion of one or more of the following certifications: \nClass A CDLTower CertificationPole CertificationTechnical School, a 2-year / associate degree (in Electronics, Telecommunications, Radio, and/or Construction). \n \nCOMPETENCIES OR KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’S): \n\nInformation Technology Related Knowledge: Firm working knowledge of basic networking concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use them in varied situations. \n\nAnalytical Skills: An advanced capability and skill with observing and assessing a situation and determining how to respond in a prompt and professional manner. Develop and direct detailed project schedules including tasks, accountability, and deadlines. Anticipate problems that may impede work. Communicates with changes and progress. \n\nComputer / Technical Skills: At an advanced level, be proficient with PC based systems, word processing and data entry tools efficiently. Creates moderate -to- complex documents. Intermediate-to-advanced programing.
