Radiac Abrasives, Inc., a leading manufacturer of conventional bonded and super abrasives is looking for a Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor to join our Salem team. For more than 100 years, Radiac has delivered industry leading technology and quality products and service to the metal finishing industry. Radiac is a TYROLIT Company that is owned by the Swarovski Group which is headquartered in Schwaz, Austria.

Position Title: Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor Exemption Status: Exempt Reports to: Engineering and Maintenance Manager Pay Range: $80,000 - $95,000

Basic Function: This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment through effective leadership, preventative and predictive maintenance programs, equipment reliability initiatives, and continuous improvement. The Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor will lead a skilled maintenance team while working closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety to maximize equipment uptime, improve plant performance, and support operational excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, sound decision-making, and a passion for developing people and improving manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel to build a high-performing maintenance organization.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign daily maintenance activities based on production requirements and equipment priorities.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations, provide coaching, and identify training and development opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous learning, and employee engagement.
  • Ensure all maintenance work completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies.
  • Direct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for plant equipment and facility systems.
  • Maintain and improve equipment reliability for CNC machines, hydraulic presses, kilns, ovens, material handling equipment, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs while minimizing production downtime.
  • Develop and continuously improve preventive maintenance strategies that increase equipment life and reduce unplanned failures.
  • Ensure maintenance documentation, equipment history, and work orders are accurately maintained with the CMMS system.
  • Develop and monitor department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including: Equipment uptime, Preventive Maintenance completion, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Maintenance backlog, Maintenance cost.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, productivity, and maintenance efficiency.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in accident investigations and implement corrective actions to eliminate hazards.
  • Ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space, and other safety procedures are consistently followed.
  • Serve as a technical and safety resource for plant personnel.
  • Support the design, installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and production systems.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities associated with capital improvement projects.
  • Manage outside contractors to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Assist in developing maintenance budgets and controlling departmental expenditures.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacement strategies.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Minimum of 710 years of industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting CNC equipment, hydraulic presses, industrial ovens, kilns, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while maintaining production support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

  • Associates degree in Engineering Science, Industrial Technology, Facility Management, Industrial Mechatronics and Maintenance, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant maintenance leadership experience will be considered.
  • Experience with: PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley preferred), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Servo systems, Industrial automation, CMMS software, Predictive maintenance technologies, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies, Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Experience with Hydraulics and Pneumatic

Success In This Role:

  • Improve equipment reliability and plant uptime.
  • Reduce unplanned downtime through effective maintenance planning.
  • Develop and mentor a highly engaged maintenance team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Complete projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Build strong partnerships with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs as required.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work in confined spaces when necessary.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and moving machinery.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to inspect equipment and safely perform job responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation.
