Job Title 3rd Grade Teacher Location Alice Terry Elementary School, Englewood, CO Work Year 187 days Work Status Licensed, Full Time Exempt Reports To Building Principal Position Summary Alice Terry is seeking a 3rd Grade Teacher who has experience working with second language learners. This position is for the 26/27 school year and is probationary unless the selected candidate is hired after the first student day. Qualifications Teachers must hold a valid Colorado License Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college. Hold an endorsement in the subject area appropriate for assignment (preferred). Hold authorization level appropriate for assignment (preferred). Pass an approved content exam in subject area (preferred). Hold 36 semester hours in assigned subject area (preferred). Key Result Areas and Attendance Responsibilities Instructional Planning: Plan instruction consistent with the district-approved curriculum for assigned subject area(s)/grade level(s); use formal and informal methods to assess the abilities and needs of students; plan effective use of class time; responsible for planning and implementing instruction in 3rd grade content with an emphasis on reading instruction, literacy, mathematics and academic language development. Instructional Interaction (teaching): Apply principles of teaching/learning to enhance student achievement; utilize teaching methods that are appropriate for the objectives and learners; modify instruction to meet student needs; communicate effectively with learners; provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction. Evaluation of Instruction: Use evaluation of student outcomes to measure effectiveness of instruction; communicate student progress to students and parents/guardians. Instructional Management: Attend to tasks in a manner that maximizes instruction; maintain necessary student records; assist in planning for appropriate use of volunteers/aides as assigned; assess students' progress, analyze results and plan appropriate instruction based on observations to meet individual needs; establish clear expectations for appropriate behavior; establish conditions for self-discipline, honesty, leadership and citizenship; create a classroom environment conducive to learning with well-defined processes and procedures. Professional Responsibilities: Participate in professional growth opportunities; adhere to the code of ethics of the teaching professional of the State of Colorado; recognize problems and actively contribute to resolutions; collaborate with others to fulfill responsibilities related to building and district goals and priorities; demonstrate concern for students' health and safety; stay within department budget; actively participate in team‑level and school‑wide professional learning community to continually plan instruction and evaluate growth of students. General: Accept and fulfill assigned responsibilities and duties promptly; follow Board of Education policies, building procedures and any other rules/regulations; perform other duties as assigned by the building principal in accordance with District Policies. General Expectations Demonstrated knowledge and skill regarding effective instruction components. Knowledge of content and teaching methods in assignment area(s). Knowledge of developmental needs of students. Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school personnel, students and parents. Understanding and empathy necessary for working with students. Background Clearance Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI via fingerprint submission. Salary Placement on Licensed Teacher salary schedule based on highest degree earned, college credits earned after highest degree and previous teaching experience. Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9. Salary will be determined by hours and days scheduled, paid monthly. Benefits Employees scheduled to work 30+ hours per week are eligible for district benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and supplemental benefits. Positions qualifying for benefits also qualify for leave. Sheridan School District participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees contribute 11%; district contributes 21%.
