The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing effective leadership, direction and supervision of nursing staff in the delivery of nursing care and treatment of patients to ensure safe and quality of patient care. As part of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Nursing, will work closely with Administrator, Medical Director, Clinical Director, and other members of the Leadership Team in the decision-making process for the management of the facility. Duties will include knowledge of the organization and function of the facility; and coordinate the development of an effective ongoing program to measure, analyze and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment and services.
RESPONSIBILITY
Develops Organization’s wide patient care programs, policies and procedures – addressing patients’ needs.
Develops and implements plan for providing Nursing Services.
Participation in the decision-making structure and processes including but not limited to governing board, medical staff, management team, interdisciplinary team and P.I. Initiatives organization wide.
Implement an ongoing program to effectively measure, assess and improve the quality of care delivered to the patients.
Promote the quality of patient care – nursing services provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by assuring there is sufficient number of qualified nursing staff.
Promote a safe and healthy milieu of all patients, systematically assesses staffing levels assuring adequate quality and quantity of staff.
Coordinates and facilitates meetings and in-services for Nursing Services Department.
Serves as a clinical resource, role model and advocate for Nursing Services Department, consults with program coordinators, Department Heads and others regarding nursing services, consistently and creatively strives to maintain the morale and motivation of the Nursing Services staff.
Monitors and assures the quality of all special nursing activities (such as seclusion and restraint of a patient; medication errors, etc.)
Consistently evaluates the overall performance of the Nursing Services Department.
Assures hospital compliance with respect to clinical services with all JCAHO, Medicare, State, Local and Federal regulatory agencies, etc. to include Department of Children and Families.
Represents Nursing Services on various hospital committees, including Performance Improvement, Medical Executive Committee, Management Team, Department Head and others as designated.
Provides clinical and administrative supervision to the Nurse Supervisors, Staff Development Coordinator and Infection Control Designee.
Supervises the Staff Development Coordinator and Infection Control Designee.
Manages the hospital-wide Employee Health program, establishing, maintaining and monitoring records as required in concert with Staff Development Coordinator, and Infection Control Designee.
Supervises the nursing component of admitting new patients to hospital and handles admitting problems and issues as they arise.
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years’ or greater nursing experience required.
Three (3) years’ experience in Psychiatric or mental health nursing required.
Two (2) years’ experience in management, leadership positions required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current State Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
