Mainframe System Programmer - SMP/E

Location: Remote - USA

Type: Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mainframe System Programmer to perform installation, upgrade, and maintenance of z/OS and related IBM, BMC, and ISV products. The role covers SMP/E-based product maintenance, security administration, system tuning, SYSPLEX operations, and disaster recovery support.

Key Responsibilities

Install, upgrade, and maintain z/OS and related IBM, BMC, and ISV products
Perform product installation and maintenance using SMP/E
Support RACF and security-related product administration
Perform system initialization and tuning
Support SYSPLEX configuration and operations
Manage JES, PARMLIB, USS, and Coupling Facility environments
Perform hardware configuration definition (HCD) work and maintain IODFs
Participate in disaster recovery exercises

Required Skills

Strong SMP/E knowledge
Experience with RACF and security-related products
Solid understanding of z/OS system initialization and tuning
Hands-on SYSPLEX knowledge and experience
Working knowledge of JES, PARMLIB, USS, and Coupling Facility
HCD experience, including working with IODFs
Disaster recovery exercise experience
Strong storage concepts knowledge; DFSMS expected

Language Support (Recommended)

PL/I compiler, COBOL, Assembler, and REXX
Java for z/OS, Node.js, and Python for z/OS
