GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Come join the Wyoming Department of Corrections. The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution is currently seeking a Food Services Supervisor . This position will oversee inmate workers and staff in the preparation and processing of food, and the maintenance, safety, and sanitation of the food service, and teach inmates job skills to help prepare them for re-entry into the community. The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) is designed to serve as the main intake and assessment center for male inmates. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for inmates requiring high levels of protective custody and medical, mental health, dental, substance abuse, life skills, cognitive/behavioral, and/or sex offender treatment services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

• Trains and supervises a staff of Food Service Specialists to ensure large-scale food production on a given shift.
• Schedules food service staff, supervises, and directs the work of subordinate staff.
• Assures compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Assists with menu and recipe development; provides nutritious menus, diabetic diets, and other medical and religious diets as required.
• Analyzes recipes/menus to meet the USDA guidelines for nutrition.
• Develops and maintains institutional food service policies and procedures.
• Responsible for overall maintenance, security, sanitation, and cleanliness of the facility.
• Responsible for safety and sanitation training of workers under their supervision and documentation of this training.
• Responsible for timekeeping and refrigeration logs, sanitation records, and production schedules.
• Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment

Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, two (2) years of food service experience, as well as two (2) years in a correctional facility
KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of supervisory methods.
• Knowledge of budget and procurement practices and policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Food Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Food Services Specialist

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Culinary Arts)

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Applicants must be able to remain on their feet for long periods of time.
• Applicants must be able to walk on hard, uneven, and/or slippery surfaces.
• Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance regularly.
• Walking on cement floors regularly.
• Balancing on an occasional basis.
• Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching on an occasional basis.
• Reaching regularly.
• Standing regularly.
• Pushing/pulling regularly.
• Typing/Repetitive motion on an occasional to regular basis.
• Talking/hearing frequently.
• Visual ability to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• Because a correctional institution is a controlled environment, inmates will often attempt to disrupt that environment. The kitchen staff has to be physically able to perform various manual labor job duties.
