Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule/Shift

Monday-Thursday 0630-1700 with on-call shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Job Description

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room, ensuring that surgical instruments are sterile and prepared for use. The technologist will assist surgeons and nurses during procedures, uphold aseptic techniques, and contribute to patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

• Follow Infection Control policies and demonstrate expertise in surgical scrub techniques.
• Adhere to sterile technique principles preoperatively and intra-operatively.
• Assist the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments.
• Anticipate the surgeon's needs for instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Maintain an organized sterile field with clean instruments.
• Keep accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
• Prepare for surgeries by assembling supplies according to preference cards.
• Ensure a safe surgical environment by identifying potential hazards.
• Utilize experienced OR staff as a resource while supporting new personnel.
• Assist in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the surgeon's direction.
• Handle and identify specimens as per policy.
• Facilitate efficient room turnover between cases.
• Participate in a rotating call duty schedule.

Required Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• NBSTSA - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).

Certifications/Licensure

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is required.
• BLS Certification is required.
