Job Summary As the leader of the health care team, you provide professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. You demonstrate performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the organization, remain flexible to changing systems, and treat co‑workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect. Essential Responsibilities Leadership: Uphold Kaiser Permanente Policies and Procedures, principles of responsibility, and applicable state, federal and local laws. Serve as a leader of the health care team; delegate tasks appropriately and demonstrate appropriate accountability. Understand own and team members’ scope of practice and appropriately escalated issues. Champion new ideas and lead and direct others through change. Utilize communication strategies, including chain of command and issue escalation, to achieve intended outcomes. Participate in problem identification and resolution. Mentor, orient, and coach others in unit‑specific operations and patient‑care activities. Share responsibility and authority with subordinates and hold them accountable for performance. Problem‑solve with other departments to assist with member issue resolution. Prioritize, delegate, and supervise work assignments to ensure completion of patient‑care activities. Comply with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Nursing Process: Develop and/or contribute to individualized plans of care that reflect assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes. Ensure plans show multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education. Ensure plans reflect admission or outpatient data, ongoing findings, age‑appropriate care, cultural needs, and appropriate acuity. Ensure plans are discussed with patient, family/significant others, and completed timely. Monitor patients’ progress based on the plan. Revise plans on an ongoing basis based on patient condition. Ensure care meets standards of practice. Ensure effective development and completion of discharge plans, including barriers and education. Ensure patients clearly understand discharge instructions and treatment at the hospital and discharge. Ensure patient safety related to medications, procedures, five rights, falls, decubitus prevention, and nosocomial infection prevention. Ensure optimal pain control and comfort; discuss anxieties, fears, or concerns. Patient Care Experience: Practice customer service standards as defined by the Service Area, Medical Center, and specified department. Promptly answer call lights, alarms, and patient requests. Make appropriate referrals and facilitate the patient’s ability to utilize resources. Maintain and protect patient confidentiality. Ensure a clean, orderly, and functional work environment. Treat all families with courtesy, respect, kindness, and compassion. Provide an optimal patient‑care experience by actively listening to needs and taking responsibility for meeting them. Give patients information in a way they can understand and ensure comprehension. Provide a patient‑care experience that exceeds member expectations. Team Commitment: Be viewed by others as an effective team member who is flexible, cooperative, and willing to assist. Confront difficult or conflict situations constructively and seek assistance. Taking accountability for own actions and accepting constructive criticism. Act as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registrars, students, and other team members. Attend mandatory meetings, in‑services, and staff meetings as required and actively participate in departmental professional development. Assess current and future unit learning needs and develop an annual education plan. Keep self informed of unit activities and recommend changes. Adhere to the Attendance Program; report to the assigned area promptly. Support a collaborative Labor–Management Partnership environment through unit‑based teams. Fiscal Responsibility: Organize work to minimize overtime. Identify and assist in systems improvement needing simplification or correction. Utilize payroll and non‑payroll resources to their maximum potential. Experience Minimum one (1) year recent (within the last 3 years) full‑time equivalent experience in an emergency department. License, Certification, Registration Registered Nurse License (California) Basic Life Support Advanced Cardiac Life Support Pediatric Advanced Life Support Additional Requirements This position is a temporary seasonal position, non‑benefited, with a commitment duration of 5 months from the date of hire.
