Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg

Position Overview

As an RN in the Emergency Department, you triage and stabilize patients with acute illnesses or injuries, perform rapid assessments, administer medications, and coordinate care under time-sensitive conditions.

You work within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary ED team to provide timely, evidence-based care and ensure patient safety and efficient throughput.

Responsibilities

• Perform triage, initial assessment, and ongoing monitoring of ED patients
• Administer medications, procedures, and stabilization interventions
• Collaborate with physicians, techs, and support staff to prioritize care
• Document assessments, treatments, and patient responses in the EHR
• Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharge planning
• Educate patients and families on care plans and safety considerations
• Respond to clinical changes and escalate as needed
• Ensure infection control and patient safety protocols

Qualifications

Education: BSN or ADN from an accredited nursing program

Licensure: Active RN license in the United States

Certifications:

• BLS Certification
• ACLS Certification often preferred; PALS for pediatric populations as applicable

Experience or Skills: Experience in emergency or acute care settings; strong triage, assessment, and crisis management skills

Experience

• Experience working in hospital ED or urgent care environments
• Experience with rapid decision-making and multi-disciplinary teamwork

Preferred

• ACLS, PALS, or crisis intervention certifications

Work Environment

High-acuity, fast-paced ED with rotating shifts; on-call or night coverage common; documentation occurs in the EHR

Team includes physicians, nurses, techs, and support staff; emphasis on patient safety and throughput.
