Energize your career with an opportunity supporting students as a dedicated paraprofessional in a contract position near Hazleton, PA. This full-time role places you at Jim Thorpe Area High School, where you'll work 1:1 with a student enrolled in the Life Skills program. The student has autism, requires consistent routines for success, and needs engaged supervision to ensure their safety and support daily progress.
Beginning August 21, 2026, through June 4, 2027, you'll be part of a compassionate educational environment with hours approximately 7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (subject to adjustment).
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous school-based experience as a paraprofessional or in a similar support role
- Solid understanding of providing behavioral and academic support for students with autism or similar needs
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviors and fostering positive student engagement
- Patience, adaptability, and consistency to help students thrive in a structured routine
- Ability to contribute as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized support to a student in the Life Skills program, maintaining a safe, encouraging classroom experience
- Proactively supervise and implement strategies to prevent elopement and instill a sense of security for the student
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, and family members to provide comprehensive care
- Assist with daily academic, behavioral, and personal needs, ensuring continuity and routine
- Maintain detailed documentation and communication regarding student progress and daily activities
