About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 8 Weeks Shift: 3 shifts per week (12 hours) Hours per Shift: Combination of 7 AM - 7 PM and 10 AM - 10 PM Experience: 2+ years of relevant work experience License: Must hold and maintain a Registered Nursing license Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC required; ATCN preferred Must-Have: Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail Description: The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating the nursing care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department, ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric. Patients may present at any point on the continuum from illness to wellness. The RN performs all aspects of direct patient care and collaborates with other disciplines and ancillary services in the care provided. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating all levels of patient care. The RN performs age-appropriate assessments and provides safe and effective care to all ages. Triage is performed according to the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5 level triage process. Documentation is completed using medical terminology and must be compliant with legal and medical standards, reflecting all nursing care provided and the patient's response to care. Collaboration with all providers, peers, ancillary departments, and outside agencies is essential for efficient, cost-effective, optimum patient care. The RN coordinates the care needs of multiple patients and prioritizes patient care to ensure timely and quality care delivery. Effective verbal communication of patient needs in a concise manner is required. The RN advocates for patients through communication with providers, peers, and ancillary departments, utilizing the chain of command when necessary. Active participation in developing professional goals is expected, and all required education, audits, and in-services must be completed in the allotted time frame. The RN assesses patient and family knowledge and discharge needs, providing appropriate support. Life support and automated technical equipment are monitored, along with the performance of routine and complex treatments including medication administration and emergency resuscitation protocols. Insertion and safe administration of IV fluids, blood, blood products, and other parenteral fluids are part of the responsibilities. The RN responds to crises in a calm and efficient manner, directing others concisely and utilizing appropriate delegation. Legal consent, transfer protocols, and other legislative requirements are adhered to in order to preserve patient rights. The RN must rapidly solve problems and deliver calm, efficient care in high-stress situations. Maintaining equipment and supplies is necessary, ensuring all checklists are completed, supplies are stocked, and rooms are ready before leaving each shift. Participation in providing educational experiences for pre-hospital emergency providers and other students is encouraged. Demonstrated proficiency in computerized documentation of patient care and related information is required. All other duties as assigned must be performed.
