Ambulatory Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Ambulatory Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting. The RN collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to assess patient needs, coordinate care, educate patients and families, and promote positive health outcomes. The Ambulatory RN ensures high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based practice guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in an outpatient setting.
• Obtain and document patient health histories, vital signs, and clinical assessments.
• Triage patient concerns via phone, electronic messaging, or in-person visits.
• Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as prescribed.
• Assist providers during examinations, procedures, and diagnostic testing.
• Monitor patient responses to treatment and report significant findings to providers.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, preventive care, and follow-up instructions.
• Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, and specialty appointments.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Promote patient safety and infection prevention practices.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction efforts.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies occurring within the clinic or ambulatory setting.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications
Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred, depending on specialty.

Experience

• Minimum of one year of nursing experience preferred.
• Previous ambulatory, clinic, physician practice, or outpatient experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs efficiently.
• Knowledge of outpatient care standards and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and healthcare technology.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
