Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Incumbent must have successfully completed a formal radiology program given by an accredited school or hospital-based program.
Experience Two years (2) of relevant work experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist preferred. One (1) year in a Computed Tomography (CT) department preferred.
Licenses & Certification Registered as a Radiologic Technologist with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. ARRT Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) with ARRT or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year of date of hire. Must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of the physics of Radiology, such as kilo voltage, milliamperes and time.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and quality control required for processing CT images with optimum results.
- Skills in obtaining adequate CT images on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring techniques which deviate from the normal.
- Ability to perform CT examinations in a variety of conditions, such as emergency trauma and also have the ability to manage patient care in trauma situations.
- Ability to successfully complete annual IV Competency Evaluation
- Knowledge of common business, electronic health record and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) software applications.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively to patients, other staff, physicians and the general public.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the position is to aid the Radiologist in performing specific computed tomography examinations and also perform certain routine examinations as well as assist fellow technologists, described in the Radiology Department's Policies and Procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in hospital environments. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires long periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, stooping, stretching and positioning patients. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties. Incumbent will also have to cope with constant changes in a stress-laden environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
- Responsible for staying abreast in policy and protocol amendments, positioning techniques and quality control of radiology and CT equipment.
- Responsible for the proper identification of patients, including correct hospital number and proper identification of all radiographic and CT images.
- Review each X-Ray and CT request to determine necessary images needed for the completion of the exam.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and equipment assigned.
- Performs required duties in technologist work area, file room and office as needed.
- Provide technical support to staff members and physicians and assists with troubleshooting and basic inquiries involved in the daily operation of computers and radiology equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining professional licensures, certifications/registrations and required continuing education as mandated by ARRT.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Performs other duties as required.
