Speech/Language Pathologist
Provide a full range of services in speech/language pathology, in accordance with special education laws, policies and procedures. Screen speech, language and hearing according to state rules and locally developed policies and procedures. Conduct assessments, identify students with speech/language disabilities, develop IEPs, and deliver therapy services as mandated by law and school district procedures. Schedule students for speech/language services in cooperation with teachers, administrators and other support staff. Prepare lesson plans and other documents as directed; for example, CAFS records. Report to parents, in writing, on a schedule consistent with the reporting schedule of the school district, and communicate with parents on an ongoing basis. Communicate regularly and work cooperatively with other staff members. Provide guidance to staff and parents regarding speech, language and hearing disabilities. Serve on evaluation teams as requested by the school psychologist, the Director of Student Services, or the Principal, and prepare the appropriate reports. Communicate with agencies and private practitioners according to confidentiality guidelines and other district procedures. Keep informed about current practices, as well as rules and regulations, in the speech/language profession. Select supplies, materials, equipment and assessment tools appropriate for the population served, and make recommendations to the Director of Student Services. Engage in continuous professional growth, including attending training sessions as assigned. Complete a professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the school district. Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community, and maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain. Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values. Serve on committees and participate in school activities in a professionally responsible manner. Identify the maintenance needs of the amplification and communication equipment used by students at school. Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district. Maintain an appropriate personal appearance. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Certificate/license issued by the State of Ohio to practice speech/language pathology in the public schools. Membership in a professional association related to speech/language, preferred. Normal hearing and the ability to communicate articulately and fluently in English. Well-developed oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of basic audiometry, including screening, threshold testing and speech audiometry. Knowledge of the operation of amplification and communication devices. Thorough knowledge of pertinent assessments and therapy methods for all speech/language disabilities that may occur in school age children, or a willingness to become informed of such. Ability to lead conferences. Well-developed problem solving and organizational skills. Computer/printer. Various office machines; for example, laminators and copiers. Audiometer. Various communication devices; for example, amplification systems, artificial voices, recording equipment. Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue. Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to school on all scheduled days, except calamity days. Possibility of frequent travel between buildings, and occasional travel to workshops and schools outside the district. Potential interaction with unruly children and distraught or angry adults. Must be available for education related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so under reasonable terms; for example, I.E.P. meetings. Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, hear, read. Occasional requirement to lift, push, pull and carry various supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds.
