Job Description

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing echocardiographic techniques/procedures which assist physicians in the diagnosis of medical conditions in patients. Responsibilities and duties include obtaining diagnostic echocardiographic recordings or images, explaining procedures to patients, preparing patients for procedures, recognizing and correcting technical problems, maintaining supplies and equipment, and becoming involved with new procedures created by new technology or responsibilities.

Education

Graduate of a 24-year Allied Health training program required.

Experience

Two (2) years training experience in cardiac sonography (echocardiography) preferred. Recent graduates of accredited sonography programs are encouraged to apply.

Certification & Licensure

Requires registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS). BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications

Must have the physical, mental and technical skills necessary to perform diagnostic testing of adult cardiovascular patients. Ability to communicate with physicians, peers and patients on a professional and technical level.
