PLANNING MANAGER (Exempt) M–Th 7am-6pm (4x10 work week); Holidays & Special Events attendance required. $68.7250 - $92.0982 hourly ($142,948.02 - $191,564.26 annually) OPEN UNTIL FILLED - INITIAL SCREENING 07/20/2026 The Planning Manager is a division manager within the Community Development Department who exercises full responsibility for planning, organizing and directing the work activities of the Planning Division staff; reviews and processes complex projects; and plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of planning staff within the Planning Division. This is the advanced professional level classification in the Planning Series. The Planning Manager class is distinguished from lower Planner classes by the difficulty and complexity of work performed and direct management responsibility of subordinate staff. Under general direction from the Community Development Director or assigned supervisor, accepts management responsibility for the activities, operations and services of the Planning division; directs, coordinates, reviews and participates in the work of professional and technical employees in data collection, analysis, plan formulation, implementation and maintenance of a wide variety of planning and zoning activities; provides interpretation of the General Plan, zoning, and subdivision ordinances; coordinates activities with other divisions, City departments, outside agencies and organizations. Typical Qualifications The following combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is essential. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning or a closely related field, and five years of professional planning experience, including two years of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience. Or, Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning or a closely related field, and seven years of professional planning experience. Licenses and Certificates Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record. Possession of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certificate, highly desired. Expected Hours of Work / Work Schedule Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (4x10 work week). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel 10-20% travel is expected for this position. Rates are age-based Dental and Vision Insurance – City pay month premium for employees and eligible dependents HRA Medical Reimbursement – City reimburse employees for eligible expenses up to $2,000.00 per fiscal year. If hospitalized, employees are eligible for an additional $2,000.00 per fiscal year Life Insurance – City pay up to $150,000.00 based on annual salary Accidental Death & Dismemberment – City pay up to $150,000.00 based on annual salary Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) Vacation Leave – 120 hours accrued annually Sick Leave – 96 hours accrued annually Management Leave - 75 hours accrued annually City contribution to a 401(a) plan up to 2% of employee annual salary. 13 paid holidays (11 holidays, 2 floating holidays) Credit Union Employee Assistance Program Tuition Reimbursement for job related degree or course up to $7,500.00 per fiscal year. Tuition pool may be used for Student Loan Reimbursements of up to $250.00 per month. The City does not participate in the Social Security program, except for the mandatory 1.45% Medicare contribution for all regular positions. Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) – 2% @ 55 for employees who are considered a "classic" member of Cal PERS or a current member of another California public retirement system who is hired on or after January 1, 2013; Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) – 2% @ 62 for an employee who becomes a "new" member of Cal PERS for the first time on or after January 1, 2013 (and who was not a member of another California public retirement system prior to that date.) #J-18808-Ljbffr
