Position Highlights The successful candidate will serve as a faculty clinician in the Division of Molecular Pathology and Therapy Biomarkers, with primary clinical, educational, and scholarly responsibilities in the Clinical Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (CMDL), a core diagnostic laboratory within the City of Hope Clinical Molecular Genomics and Cytogenomics (CMGCL) CLIA Laboratory. The faculty member will work collaboratively with a diverse and nationally recognized team of physicians, pathologists, scientists, and laboratory professionals to advance excellence in genomic diagnostics, translational research, education, and patient-centered care. The Clinical Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, located at Rivergrade within the Molecular Pathology, Genomics, and Cytogenomics CLIA Laboratory, is a high-volume, state-of-the-art program performing more than 39,000 moderate to high complexity molecular tests annually across solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. The laboratory's testing portfolio is centered on next-generation sequencing (NGS) and is complemented by advanced molecular methodologies, including Sanger sequencing, real-time PCR and related technologies, fragment analysis, MLPA, and other cutting-edge diagnostic platforms. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the continued expansion of molecular diagnostic testing across the City of Hope enterprise, including the development and implementation of innovative genomic technologies, companion diagnostics, and precision oncology initiatives. The faculty member will be responsible for interpreting and reporting molecular and genomics results in correlation with hematopathology assay results, surgical pathology relevant biomarker analysis, and in bone marrow transplant setting with HLA results. The laboratory supports a diverse menu of testing for both solid tumor and hematologic malignancies, including single-gene assays, large NGS panels, quantitative molecular assays, and emerging technologies in plasma-based cancer testing, measurable molecular residual disease (MMRD), and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) assessment. The program emphasizes active participation in assay development, validation, laboratory-developed testing, quality management initiatives, molecular tumor boards, proficiency testing, translational research, and clinical trials. Faculty are expected to contribute to scholarly productivity through publications, grant development, collaborative research, and national professional activities. This position offers exceptional opportunities for clinical service, teaching, mentorship, and clinical and translational research. The faculty members will represent the Clinical Laboratories on test utilization, departmental quality initiatives, Molecular Genomic Pathology diagnostic strategy, laboratory information systems committees, and other institutional activities. Additional responsibilities include providing coverage and on-call support for other pathology services. Additional clinical service responsibilities will include a limited effort allocation for diagnostic sign-out in surgical pathology or hematopathology, based on the candidate’s training, board certification, and departmental needs. Working closely with Division Chief of Molecular Pathology & Therapy Biomarkers and CLIA Laboratory Director of the Clinical Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (CMDL), the faculty member will collaborate with laboratory directors and clinical leaders across the City of Hope enterprise, including Duarte, Orange County, Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta. The successful candidate will promote excellence in clinical laboratory operations, research, education, and patient-centered care while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional development. Position Benefits Excellent benefits package, including a generous retirement contribution plan. Relocation assistance may be available. Base Salary Range: $310k to $480k. The range listed is exclusively for base compensation for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual compensation will be adjusted for experience, training, hospital/community need and other factors. Qualifications Minimum Education / Work Experience Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Board eligible or board certified in Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) or Molecular Genomic Pathology. Board certified in Anatomic Pathology and/or Clinical Pathology (AP/CP preferred) through the American Board of Pathology. Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of California. A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in or directing a clinical Molecular Genomic Pathology laboratory is preferred. Exceptionally qualified candidates with fellowship training and demonstrated academic potential will also be considered. Preferred Qualifications Board certified in Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) by the American Board of Pathology. Additional fellowship training and/or board certification in Hematopathology, Cytogenetics, Clinical Informatics, or related disciplines is desirable. More than two (2) years of faculty experience in an academic molecular pathology program. Experience with translational research, Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, grant-supported research, and advanced molecular genomics methodologies, including whole-genome sequencing, optical genome mapping, CytoScan, OncoScan, and other genome-wide array technologies. Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans for program growth, test utilization, laboratory integration, and expansion of molecular diagnostic services. Record of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications, translational research, grant funding, or clinical trial support. Experience mentoring residents, fellows, graduate students, or junior faculty. Minimum Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular oncology, somatic tumor testing, and genomic interpretation for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Experience providing clinical consultation and multidisciplinary support for precision medicine initiatives and molecular tumor boards. Knowledge of assay development, validation, implementation, quality assurance/quality control, personnel training, and regulatory compliance for both FDA-approved and laboratory-developed tests (LDTs). Strong understanding of CAP, CLIA, New York State (if applicable), and other accreditation and regulatory requirements governing high-complexity molecular testing. Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care, quality, safety, compliance, and operational excellence. Ability to collaborate effectively with pathologists, clinicians, laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, researchers, and operational leaders across the enterprise. Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills. Ability to think strategically and innovate while advancing institutional initiatives in genomics, cytogenomics, clinical operations, education, and research. Demonstrated commitment to education and mentorship of residents, fellows, medical students, and laboratory trainees.
