About the Position

The focus is on the creation of a caring environment centered on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines. Key responsibilities include: Assessment of patient needs. Performing and documenting comprehensive assessments in accordance with the RN's scope of practice and hospital policies/procedures. Considering the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Identifying patient risk factors and presenting complaints. Obtaining health information from family or others as necessary. Collecting both objective and subjective data. Verifying initial admission assessments, if obtained by other members of the healthcare team. Developing a problem list and prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. Designing actions and interventions relevant to the patient’s culture and age. Determining desired outcomes in coordination with the patient and family according to the medical plan of care. Fully implementing patient care therapies and procedures within established policies and practice guidelines. Explaining procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families. Taking action to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Recognizing, responding to, and communicating changes in patient conditions appropriately. Conducting and documenting ongoing assessments and responses to treatments. Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in patient care activities. Monitoring the accuracy and completeness of care provided by other team members. Identifying and addressing educational needs of patients according to their comprehension levels. Facilitating the discharge process by executing orders in a timely manner. Providing input into patient/nurse assignments considering staffing and patient acuity. Demonstrating active participation in unit-based activities while supporting organizational values. Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment through effective communication. Assuring nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards and evidence-based practice. Participating in quality improvement activities, such as monitoring patient satisfaction and safety measures. Using a holistic perspective regarding patient care. Skills required include: Accepting responsibility for actions while meeting deadlines and performance expectations. Practicing effective and respectful communication. Collaborating and respecting all co-workers. Warmly greeting all customers and promoting high levels of satisfaction. Understanding and using computer systems and applications or the ability to be trained. Ability to communicate and collaborate with other care team members. Ability to assess age-specific patient safety issues. Preferred skills include: Previous nursing experience.
