POSITION TITLE: Custodian II - 2nd Shift.

LOCATION: Franklin Elementary School and Franklin Fieldhouse.

SHIFT TIMES: Monday - Friday 1:00pm-9:30pm.

PAY RATE: $21.00 per hour.

START DATE: ASAP.

Background check, physical and drug test required.

Job Summary:

This is a position responsible for the safety and security of students, staff, and the community involving the cleaning and minor maintenance of a School District building and its surrounding grounds.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED or its equivalent preferred.
• At least one (1) year of paid experience in general building cleaning, maintenance work or a suitable
• equivalent combination and have some mechanical abilities.
• In addition, one of the following is preferred (may be required to obtain if hired):
  • Current low-pressure boilers permit to operate issued by American Society of Power Engineers or.
  • National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, Inc.
  • Certified Pool Operators license.

Nature of Work:

Under general supervision, a Custodian II is responsible for the cleanliness, orderliness, and maintenance of a school district building as well as the neat appearance of surrounding grounds. Custodians are generally assigned to a specific building but may provide services for other buildings when necessary. The work requires initiative since custodians are expected to work independently in the performance of normal work activities. Instructions are received from the Custodial Services Specialist, Assistant Custodial Services Specialist, Head Custodian, or their designee on matters of policy and new assignments. The duties and responsibilities listed below are not an all-inclusive list but are representative of the type of work required by this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Routine housekeeping, cleaning, and washroom sanitation of a school district owned building and grounds.
• Typical duties will be sweep, mop and scrub floors and other surfaces; clean and dust furniture, windows, doors, trim and related furnishings; use buffing machines and walk behind floor scrubbing machines; clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms and restrooms; move furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
• Custodians may be required to close and secure the building windows, doors and set the security alarm.
• Snow removal with shovels and operating snow removal equipment, salting entrances and walkways to keep school district buildings grounds in safe condition.
• Set up and tear downs of school district activities.
• Custodians are further responsible for performing minor maintenance on boilers, air handling units and other equipment as needed/assigned.
• Other misc./common duties related to the upkeep of a facility as directed by a supervisor.
• Operate, regulate, and maintain the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for proper temperature, ventilation, and humidity throughout the building.
• Reads and checks gauges, meters, and thermometers and keeps required records.
• Inspects the building and the operation of equipment reporting the need for necessary repairs to the Facilities & Operations Department.
• Receives and accounts for necessary supplies and equipment; makes minor repairs to such items such as desks, furniture, window shades, and other similar school equipment; cleans lighting fixtures and replaces lamps (may work from scaffolds or ladders).
• Removes litter from grounds and sweeps walks.
• Shovels snow, operates snow removal equipment, salts walks, keeping them in safe condition.
• Supervises the preparation for special events.
• Keeps inventory, time and other records.
• Prepares reports on work activities, accidents, and unusual conditions.
• Does related work as required.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• The position may also require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
• perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• Considerable working knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in general building
• cleaning and minor maintenance work.
• Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.
• Knowledge of the operation of swimming pools.
• Maintenance of heating and ventilating equipment.
• Ability to perform a variety of building cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships.
• Ability to perform manual work requiring average physical strength.
• Ability to plan, assign, coordinate, and evaluate the work of others.
• Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the position. And work nights/weekends as required
• by scheduled district events.
