CAFETERIA WORKER - PART-TIME JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Cafeteria Worker (Part-Time)

Reports To: Cafeteria Manager & Director of Food Services

Hours / Work Calendar: 2.5-5 hours/day • 180-185 days (School Year)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Effective Date: 2026-2027

Position Summary

The Part-Time Cafeteria Worker supports the school food service operation by assisting with meal preparation, serving students, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a safe and welcoming dining environment. This role focuses on high-volume service periods and helps maintain compliance with USDA, state, and district food service regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation and portioning according to district menus.
• Serve meals safely and efficiently during breakfast and/or lunch service.
• Set up, clean, and restock serving lines and food stations.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of counters, tables, equipment, and kitchen tools.
• Assist with dishwashing, tray washing, and utensil sanitizing.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and handwashing procedures.
• Monitor and record food temperatures when assigned.
• Restock milk coolers, condiment stations, and serving supplies.
• Assist with receiving and storing food items following proper rotation (FIFO).
• Interact with students and staff positively and respectfully.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student meal status and personal information.
• Report equipment or safety concerns immediately to the cafeteria manager.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by cafeteria leadership.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs and perform repetitive physical tasks.
• Ability to stand, bend, push, and pull for extended periods.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to follow food safety procedures and instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in food service, cafeteria work, or commercial kitchens.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation standards.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting.

Physical Demands

• Part-time, school-year schedule.
