Nurse Practitioner (2328) All Specialties - Citywide

Job Summary Full‑time position within the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The role is a Nurse Practitioner for all specialties, under general nursing and medical direction, operating within a multidisciplinary health‑care team to provide routine, preventive, acute and chronic care to adult and/or pediatric patients. Job Code and Title: 2328-Nurse Practitioner Fill Type: Permanent Civil Service Certification Rule: Rule of the List Responsibilities Provide routine, preventive and continuity of care to adult and/or pediatric patients, including complete history and physical examinations. Order diagnostic tests, including laboratory tests, X‑rays, imaging, EKGs and other disease‑specific diagnostics. Identify and manage patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty. Provide urgent care to acutely ill patients. Develop acute care plans for patients in inpatient settings. Assess, diagnose, develop treatment plans and provide prescription medications. Counsel and educate patients and collaborate with healthcare team. Consult with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions. Document medical records and adhere to patient privacy. Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and quality improvement/control activities. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. National board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner from a recognized national certifying body, such as American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Credentialing Center, Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, National Certification Corporation, or American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Additional Requirements Valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association. Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Women’s Health NP, Acute Care NP, Pediatric NP, or Psychiatric Mental Health NP. Ability to obtain Security Clearance from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. Possession of a furnishing and dispensing number (or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire). Certified as a Medical Examiner by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Experience At least six (6) months (1,000 hours) of health‑care provider experience in a long‑term or acute care setting. Minimum six (6) months (1,000 hours) of occupational health experience. One (1) year (2,000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency service clinic, or mental health center. One (1) year (2,000 hours) of experience in a setting that treats HIV, AIDS, and sexually transmitted infections.
