Part-Time Environmental Planner

Environmental Planner (Part-Time) We are looking for an experienced Environmental Planner to join our team on a part‑time basis (16 hours per week) at the Bureau of Indian Affairs Western Region Office in downtown Phoenix. Key Responsibilities Support new and existing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects within the BIA Western Region. Provide technical reviews to determine suitability of NEPA documents – Categorical Exclusion checklists, Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS). Prepare and edit NEPA documents and supplemental technical reports for BIA actions. Facilitate, manage, and assist with processing NEPA documents in the NEPA Tracker 2 database, and extract information as needed. Coordinate with federal, tribal, state, and local offices and other stakeholders; maintain associated mailing lists. Coordinate monthly with the BIA, reporting contractor accomplishments, project issues, and future plans. Provide technical reviews of biological assessments or reports. Provide technical reviews of biological opinions. Provide technical reviews of reports related to regulatory acts such as ESA, CWA, CAA (including climate change). Assist with consultation and coordination with other federal and state oversight agencies. Perform other responsibilities as required, commensurate with experience. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Planning, Anthropology, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Studies, or a closely related field. Environmental planning experience in a consulting or agency setting preferred. Strong writing skills related to natural resources and/or NEPA. Knowledge of federal environmental regulations. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Exceptional attention to detail and quality control. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to synthesize and present complex ideas through text and graphics. Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities to meet deadlines. Desire to work collaboratively in a fast paced team environment. Ability to work in the office roughly two days per week. What We Offer Hourly compensation ranging from $25 to $34, depending on experience and education. Eligibility for paid sick leave and paid holiday pay (not eligible for full benefits).
