The state supported living counties provide campus‑based direct services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems. Responsibilities Oversee daily operations and program delivery at the assigned home, ensuring quality services, infection control, and risk management protocols are followed. Arrange work schedules for DSPs to maintain adequate supervision and coverage based on individual levels of care. Lead, plan, assign, and supervise DSP staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluation, and time/leave accounting. Model and support DSP IV "Charge" staff, fostering their supervisory and leadership skills while ensuring adherence to habilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, meal coordination, and other care plans. Document all care, treatment, training, and support activities according to individual plans and agency standards. Provide consultation and guidance to staff on managing challenging behaviors, implementing behavior intervention strategies, and maintaining professional boundaries. Maintain physical presence on the home to ensure safe, sanitary living conditions and address infection control needs. Plan and conduct emergency drills (CPR, fire, etc.) and respond to emergencies with first aid and crisis management as required. Identify and report safety hazards, enter work orders, and supervise others in maintaining a safe environment. Engage in continuous quality improvement and comply with the DOJ Settlement Agreement, reporting unusual incidents such as fires, abuse, injury, or unauthorized departures. Assist in administering assistance to individuals on scheduled activities and emergencies, and serve as Acting Unit Director when required. Participate in agency or community meetings, serve on committees, and perform disaster response or COOP activation tasks when necessary. Operate a state-owned vehicle if required (license/no later than 90 days after hire date). Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs) Clear verbal and written communication in English. Good judgment and decision‑making during critical incidents. Rapid and calm response in emergencies. Knowledge of proper body mechanics, CPR, and Safety Utilization of Restraint (SUR) techniques. Basic techniques of individual care and training. Flexibility in handling work assignments. Understanding of individual care techniques, treatment, therapy, and developmental programs. Familiarity with ICF/IID standards. Proficiency in scheduling, training, guiding, and leading others. Ability to set and help achieve goals and expectations. Teamwork and effective collaboration skills. Qualifications High school diploma or GED (preferred). State that is required or equivalency for related positions. Minimum two (2) years of experience working with people with developmental or physical disabilities. Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) preferred. Experience in a supervisory or team lead role preferred. Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire; out‑of‑state license holders must provide a certified driving record per HHSC Fleet Management policy. Required Background and Checks Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males aged 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random Drug Testing. Additional Requirements Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and to maintain flexible work hours. Must be at least 18 years old to be considered for employment at a state‑operated facility.
