The unit cares for patients requiring cardiac stepdown care and medical stepdown care. The typical patient types include those recovering from cardiac surgery and various medical conditions requiring close monitoring. Patient ratios will be 1:3-4. The role involves managing and titrating cardiac and insulin drips, as well as administering vasopressors. Nurses will have additional responsibilities such as management of chest tubes, tracheostomies, central lines, drains, and wound care. Cardiac management skills, including managing and pulling venous sheaths and TR Bands, are preferred. Technical support on the unit involves certified nursing assistants and resource nurses during the day. The charge nurse may have a patient assignment. The team includes respiratory therapists and hospitalists who are available on call 24/7. The charting system used is Meditech. Weekend rotation will be required, with every other weekend off. Mandatory scheduling requires working four days one week and three days the next. Holiday expectations include working two out of three major holidays. The dress code consists of pewter scrubs, with specific guidelines for t-shirts and jackets. Badges must be worn in full view at all times. The unit culture is diverse and traveler-friendly.
