Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

• Number of Beds: 17
• Traveler Experience: Minimum 2 years required; Cerner experience preferred

Patient Types

• Geriatrics
• Psychiatric patients
• Stroke care
• Heart complications
• Sports injuries
• MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) cases

Pediatric experience is not required as most pediatric cases are managed by another facility.

Patient Ratios

• The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.

Required Certifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) or similar certification

Skills Required

• Tracheostomy care
• Ventilator management
• ICU drip care and maintenance
• Chest tube management
• Arterial line management
• Central Venous Line (CVL) care
• Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) and midline maintenance
• Port care
• Foley catheter management
• Application and care of orthotic devices
• BiPAP and high-flow oxygen management
• Continuous bladder irrigation

Support on the Unit

• Patient Care Technicians (PCT)
• Unit Assistants
• Charge Nurse (typically not assigned patients)
• Emergency Care Physician (ED MD)
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) available at night
• Emergency Care Technician (Paramedic) from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
• IV Pumps: Plum 360
• Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitoring Equipment: Spacelabs

Orientation

• 24 hours in classroom training
• 24 hours of on-unit training
• Rehires will have orientation based on their last working date

Scheduling

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month with block scheduling
• Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor holiday per seasonal policy
• Time Off Approval: Can approve up to 7 days off excluding provided blackout dates
• Shift Times: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., 7 p.m. - 7 a.m., 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
• Schedule Cycle: 6 weeks
