Company Overview
Chattanooga Imaging is part of a network of six multi-modality imaging centers dedicated to providing comprehensive diagnostic imaging services. Our centers are equipped with advanced imaging technology, including ultrasound, MRI, CT, X-ray, fluoroscopy, and other diagnostic modalities, to support accurate, timely, and patient-centered care.
Position Summary
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders, radiologist direction, established protocols, and applicable safety standards. This role requires strong technical sonography skills, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality.
The Ultrasound Technologist works collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, clinical staff, and center leadership to obtain accurate diagnostic images, support timely interpretation, and provide a positive patient experience.
Essential Job Duties

- Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across applicable specialties, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, small parts, and other studies as ordered.
- Review physician orders and confirm the appropriate exam prior to performing the procedure.
- Greet patients professionally, verify patient identity, explain procedures, and obtain relevant medical history.
- Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations while ensuring patient comfort, privacy, and safety.
- Properly position patients and operate ultrasound equipment to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
- Select appropriate transducers, imaging settings, and scanning techniques based on the exam type and patient condition.
- Analyze images for technical quality, clarity, anatomy, completeness, and diagnostic value, making adjustments as needed.
- Identify and document relevant anatomical structures, measurements, and observations in accordance with established protocols.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of procedures, images, and patient information in the electronic medical record, RIS/PACS, or other imaging systems.
- Communicate appropriately with radiologists, physicians, and clinical staff regarding exam findings, image quality, patient status, or additional imaging needs.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to patient discomfort, urgent findings, or emergency situations.
- Follow aseptic technique, infection control standards, and organizational safety policies.
- Clean and disinfect ultrasound probes, equipment, and examination rooms in accordance with infection control requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked ultrasound room.
- Ensure ultrasound equipment is operational and report equipment issues or malfunctions promptly to the appropriate supervisor or service provider.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Stay current with advances in sonography technology, imaging protocols, patient care standards, and professional best practices through continuing education.
- Maintain consistent, regular, and predictable attendance in accordance with company policy.
- May be required to work at other locations or support additional shifts based on operational needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and scope of the position.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist patients for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, move, or position patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate ultrasound equipment and computer systems.
- Ability to see and hear adequately to perform imaging procedures and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
- Work is performed in a clinical imaging environment with potential exposure to infectious materials, bodily fluids, and cleaning agents under controlled conditions.
- Ability to work varied shifts, weekends, or extended hours based on operational needs.
Qualifications
The requirements listed below represent the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job successfully.
- Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program required.
- Current ARDMS certification required or eligibility to obtain certification within a defined period based on company requirements.
- Current applicable state licensure or registration required, if applicable.
- Experience performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures required.
- Experience with obstetric, gynecologic, abdominal, small parts, and/or vascular ultrasound preferred.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, sonographic imaging principles, medical terminology, and diagnostic radiology practices required.
- Familiarity with patient care protocols, imaging systems, electronic medical records, RIS/PACS, and documentation requirements preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support certification preferred or required based on company policy.
