School Social Worker

Overview Job Posting: Elementary School Social Worker Location: Cape Cod, Massachusetts Position Type: Full-Time Start Date: September 1, 2026 The Truro Central School, a close-knit and community-oriented elementary school on Cape Cod, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary School Social Worker to support the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students in grades PK–6. The ideal candidate values collaboration, relationship-building, and a whole-child approach within a rural school community. Responsibilities Support students with social-emotional learning, attendance concerns, behavioral challenges, and family-related stressors Deliver high quality, evidence-based social-emotional curriculum Function as an advocate for children and provide direct services to students and their families in a one-to-one relationship, as well as in groups Participates as a member of the school’s leadership team and works toward making the school and community more sensitive to problems within the school population Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans, including conducting social-emotional assessments Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff in a team-based, relationship-driven environment Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and local Cape Cod community resources Develop, conduct and facilitate parent/guardian educational workshops on issues related to child development, stress reduction and parenting strategies Assist with crisis response, risk assessments, and student safety planning as needed Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with DESE and district guidelines Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) Massachusetts DESE licensure as a School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Commitment to equity, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive care Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a rural or small-district school setting Knowledge of special education processes and Massachusetts education regulations Familiarity with community-based services and family support systems Experience with the Second Step curriculum for K-6.
