Director of Group Homes

Job Summary :

Director performs a wide variety tasks which are broad in scope, and involve many complex and significant variables. Director manages the Group Home department. Director works according to standard agency policies and procedures and standard practices of the profession, exercising considerable independent judgment to supervise and direct assigned personnel, implement programs efficiently with limited resources and solve problems. Director makes a substantial contribution to agency's mission by developing and supervising services while ensuring compliance with state, federal and agency rules and regulations. Director works with minimum supervision, referring to supervisor unusual or unprecedented situations, such as questions regarding budget or programs. Director determines own priorities and schedule, with work reviewed for soundness of judgment and appropriate supervision or direction of assigned operations. Director maintains frequent contact with other agency personnel, government officials, other service providers and the public for the purpose of exchanging information, maintaining coordination and solving problems.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintain compliance with all regulatory bodies.

· Creates processes and procedures that comply with Agency and ICF/IID policy and regulations

· Establishes and maintains department-wide systems that ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation across all residential programs.

· Provides strategic oversight for regulatory readiness by establishing department-wide processes, directing survey preparation activities, ensuring implementation of corrective actions, and leading systemic improvements following surveys, investigations, and audits.

· Strategically processes information to improve services across the department and agency.

· Awareness of current and potential issues to prevent possible future crisis.

· Inquisitive and objective thinking that digs beyond surface level to find the root cause of issues.

· Trains, assists and directs staff in following agency policy and procedures; manages program to ensure limited Corrective Action Plans are issued.

· Analyzes trends identified through surveys, investigations, incidents, audits, quality assurance activities, and stakeholder feedback to implement department-wide systemic improvements, including policy revisions, workflow redesign, staff education, and performance initiatives that prevent recurrence.

2. Develop a workforce that fosters working through a continuum of services.

· Supervises assigned personnel, including interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, disciplining and terminating, reviewing and approving work schedules. Shall perform duties of absent personnel as needed.

· Adheres to Easterseals Human Resources and EEO/AA Policies and performs other duties as assigned

· Trains others in person centered program development, including behavioral, social, cognitive, daily living, communication, and life planning

· Regularly completes home visits to interact with staff and people supported. Will complete home visit for each site at least once per month.

· Available to staff and call center after hours and on weekends to handle emergencies, help problem solve and provide approval according to department policies

3. Manage and generate agency resources consciously and responsibly.

· Understands and maximizes all funding possibilities; regularly reviews program to combine tasks into efficient workflow to get more out of fewer resources

· Works with Business Office personnel to ensure appropriate utilization of resources

· Determines appropriate staffing within all residential services

· Establishes and implements department balanced scorecard goals and assists department in meeting the department’s goals for assigned department.

· Communicates ongoing with supervisory and direct line staff to improve staff engagement; plans and implements regular team building/development activities

4. Build community relationships and awareness through innovation and quality improvement.

· Serves as a liaison between Easterseals and community/region/state organizations and agencies

· Works in cooperation on marketing efforts; participates in community events to build awareness and relationships

· Reviews programs regularly and recommends changes as appropriate

· Works to develop an annual plan for the program areas and participates in agency planning process

5. Ensure services provided are individualized.

· Collaborates with other Department Directors to provide an individualized and holistic approach to services offered

· Responds to crisis situations immediately and appropriately, available to participate in on-call as needed, provides crisis intervention assistance

· Establishes and maintains effective relationships with participants and other stakeholders as well as internal relationships between departments

· Gathers and evaluates feedback from participants and other stakeholders; recommends changes as appropriate based on feedback

Qualifications & Experience:

· At least 18 years of age

· Bachelor’s degree required

· 3-5 years of experience working with individuals with autism and other intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred

· At least 2 years experience in supervisory role required

· Ability to understand and analyze financial statements and other reports to strategically manage daily operations

· Prior experience in program management preferred

· Experience supervising ICF/IID programs preferred.

· Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks, A valid driver’s license & insured vehicle

· Ability and willingness to support individuals with challenging behavior and/or medical concerns

· Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration and Positive Behavioral Support Training and other trainings as deemed necessary by the agency

Work Environment/Conditions: Director performs duties in a standard office environment. Director works with minimum supervision, both alone and with others in a team environment. Director frequently works on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure Director occasionally works extended hours, weekends and/or evenings, and occasionally travels out of town, sometimes overnight.

Physical Requirement: Work may require moderate to heavy lifting up to 75lbs while working with clients. Incumbent may work with violent/physically aggressive participants and responds to emergency situations involving potential physical harm to self and others.
