Summary About the Position: This position is located with the 96th Medical Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

- Serve as a professional senior clinical laboratory scientist for multiple laboratory departments with responsibility for performing highly complex procedures.
- Implement and operate the Quality Management System (QMS) for all phases of testing to include the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
- Audit test results or worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results, and preventive maintenance records.
- Ensure correct specimen collection and handling, and proper specimen preparation procedures are followed prior to shipment to reference laboratories.
- Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintains instruments.
- Educate medical and laboratory staff on the theoretical and practical aspects of medical technology, and in unique specimen handling and testing protocols.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Must be able to fulfill MLS certification. Must obtain and maintain appropriate/clinical privileges.
- Incumbent must use restrictive and/or protective clothing such as surgical gowns, gloves, face masks/shields, and/or safety goggles.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS
- May be required to work holidays and/or a rotating shift due to mission requirements.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
- The position is considered essential to support mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization.
- Up to 10% Business Travel required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.

- Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

- Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
