Public Service Specialist

Under general supervision, the Public Service Specialist position supports the Special Operations Division of the Round Rock Police Department and helps the department efficiently use police resources. Work is performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, local, state, and federal regulations with considerable independence to use pertinent training and knowledge. Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

Examples of duties include:

• Supporting law enforcement agencies, court jurisdictions and the community by responding to various types of requests either through dispatched, verbal, or written communication.
• Processing highly confidential information and routing to appropriate channels.
• Ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks including assisting with public information requests, collection of evidence and entry into criminal databases.
• Understanding pertinent local, state, and federal regulations that affect the processing or release of criminal and civil information.
• Responding to traffic complaints by email and phone; reviewing location to determine type of study and equipment required; deploying speed trailer; providing feedback to citizens and notifying patrol for enforcement if necessary.
• Collecting evidence by finding property and taking photos of damage or bodily injury; dusting for prints and collecting items to be transported to the PD; collecting, transporting and submitting property to the police department for investigation or safekeeping.
• Responding to traffic hazards in roadway by blocking traffic and removing hazards; responding to accident scenes, setting up cones, getting witness statements; providing transportation to safe location or residence.
• Responding and investigating reports of public ordinance violations pertaining to junked or abandoned vehicles by locating vehicles and determining if it is legally parked; determining the registered owner and initiating the process following proper procedure to remove the vehicle from property.
• Performing other duties and special assignments as required.

Experience and training required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of experience working with the public. Verifiable volunteer experience may be considered in lieu of actual work experience.
• One year of the indicated experience may be substituted for one year (30 semester hours) of additional higher education.

Certificates and licenses required:

• Class C Driver's License.
• Required to obtain TCIC/NCIC Certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Must have completed, or be able to obtain, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Training.
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical standards test.
• Must be able to lift at least 50lbs unassisted into a vehicle; climb in and out of a truck to retrieve equipment; maneuver a speed trailer, attach a hitch and deploy the trailer.
