Lead Assembly Technician

Lead Technician - AssemblyAs a Lead Technician on the Assembly Team at CFS, you will be responsible for overseeing and organizing the small technician teams to conduct all assembly activities to construct the SPARC Tokamak. This includes the handling, alignment, and mechanical integration of large electromagnetic coils, vacuum vessels, instrumentation systems, support structures, tooling and manipulation equipment, diagnostic systems, and superconducting cable bundles, all together into a tightly packed and highly integrated central device. You will use your extensive experience in building and handling large equipment, structures, or plant systems to facilitate the efficient and high-quality completion of SPARC. You will organize the day-to-day work orders of the day per the schedule, assign technicians to each set of work, adjust as needed from previous work or issues, give morning briefs and shift hand-off reports, and overall guide all activity in the assembly work areas. During this you will work directly and collaboratively with the engineers, the metrology group, the quality group, and many other team-members to ensure correct and precise completion of the components and identify and help resolve issues as they arise during the build process. You will work with other technicians and leads, working in a dynamic and flexible workplace that shifts focus and priority as needed to meet the schedule to complete our next-generation tokamak device.This role is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to use your hands-on assembly skills to accelerate the development of fusion energy by ensuring SPARC is built on time and to high quality!Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pmWhat you'll do:Day-to-day activity management and coordination of the technician teams to complete the assembly operations, per the overall scheduleWork order review, including mechanical, welding, electrical, and lifting tasksParticipation in major on-site operations, such as important component lifts and movementsInspection buy-off (visual confirmation only) for tasks completed by the technician teamsDaily updates to the rest of the Assembly team on status of each operation or work orders and what was completed that dayAssignment of each technician or technician team to specific operations and work orders, as needed for the schedule priorities determined by the planningCoordination with out-of-house work teams working on specialized sections of SPARC assembly when they arrive, ensuring that all teams can efficiently complete their work on timeGeneral troubleshooting of any issues with assembly as they arrive, and coming up with workarounds to problems, or elevating the issue as necessary. Assistance in all aspects that helps and keeps the technician teams moving forward as smoothly as possibleNotification to Assembly Engineers of problems or need for non-conformance reports in a specific assembly Coordination with the Assembly Testing Team on their upcoming or ongoing activities, to ensure that each day all teams can efficiently and safely complete their workDaily kick-off meetings and shift-change meetings to outline what is being done that shift, which team is working on what, what the major important events (like big lifts) are that need to be communicated, safety hazards of the day, and all other details that will help the teams work efficiently and safelyWhat we're looking for:High school diploma or equivalent experience7+ years in a highly technical assembly role; e.g., aerospace/aircraft, semiconductor, oil & gas, power plants, wind, racing & automotive2 to 3 years overseeing a team of five people or moreExperience completing large scale projects end to endExperience assisting lifting operationsKnowledge of standard joining and integration methods (bolted interfaces and flanges, welding, epoxies, etc.)Highly self-motivated, organized, and passionate about their workHighly safety consciousBonus points for:10+ years in a highly technical assembly role; e.g., aerospace/aircraft, semiconductor, oil & gas, power plants, wind, racing & automotive3+ years leading a team of ten people or moreCan operate a forkliftAbility to use basic machining tools; e.g., lathe/millExperience creating designs for toolingExperience using JIRA, Manufacturo, or other software based trackingExperience with organizing rigging and direct oversight of heavy components liftingKnowledge of rigging and lifting best practiceKnowledge of vacuum systems and clean room best practicesKnowledge of cryogenic systemsPrior experience in independent design and construction of small fixtures and toolingExperience with metrology tools and precision alignment of componentsWillingness to occasionally travel for required nights/weekends/on-callDedication to safetyMust-have Requirements:Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbsPerform activities: Stooping, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of timeMay need to operate in small confined places in odd locationsWork locations could include being on platforms around 25 feet highDedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenicsWillingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally$32 - $52 an hour Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits .
