Product Engineer – Abbott Diabetes Care Location: United States – Alameda or Milpitas, CA (Milpitas address: 1820 McCarthy Blvd; Alameda address: 1360-1380 South Loop Road) Work shift: Standard Travel: Yes, up to 5% of the time Medical surveillance: Not applicable Significant work activities: Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8‑hour day) Base pay: $114,000.00 – $228,000.00 (may vary by location) Responsibilities Develop electrical and product requirements, design specifications, test specifications, acceptance criteria, and limits. Provide technical guidance to external suppliers and third‑party manufacturers. Ensure that electrical design and test equipment meet applicable industry standards and regulations. Assist with bring‑up and validation of new SMT, plastics assembly, and packaging manufacturing lines. Develop firmware and software tools for hardware verification of advanced features. Design and verify systems used for biosensor manufacture and test. Represent operations and R&D in cross‑functional teams. Write and submit Engineering Change Orders into the product life cycle documentation system. Required Qualifications BS or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering or a related field. At least 4 years of experience in software development, electrical design and testing, and electrical or process verification and validation. Medical device experience preferred. Preferred Skills and Experience Application software development with C#, Python, C++ or similar. Embedded software development with C. Experience troubleshooting embedded systems and/or manufacturing processes. Electrical design experience or familiarity with electrical schematics and PCB layouts. Familiarity with electrical laboratory equipment and testing (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.). Familiarity with wired and wireless communication protocols (UART, SPI, NFC, Bluetooth). Familiarity with statistical process analysis. Experience in a regulated environment (e.g., ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820, IEC 62304) preferred. Experience writing requirements, design verification, and validation. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
