Senior Scientist - Protein Design

AstraZeneca seeks a Senior Scientist in Protein Design for its Seattle-based Early Infectious Disease Unit. The role involves applying computational methods and machine learning to design novel protein antigens and immunogens for vaccines and biologics targeting viral pathogens.

Responsibilities

• Design novel protein antigens, immunogens, and antibodies using computational experiments and modeling approaches
• Develop and maintain computational pipelines integrating protein structure software, deep learning, and generative models
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate computational designs into experimental constructs and advance projects
• Evaluate and integrate emerging algorithms, tools, and frameworks to improve design success and reduce cycle time
• Contribute to intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications; publish findings in peer-reviewed journals

Requirements

• B.S. in computational biology, bioengineering, computer science, or related field with 4+ years experience
• M.S. in computational biology, bioengineering, computer science, or related field with 2+ years experience
• Ph.D. in computational biology, bioengineering, computer science, or related scientific discipline
• Hands-on experience with computational protein design tools and deep learning models for proteins
• Extensive knowledge of structural biology, protein structure prediction, and structure determination techniques
• Strong Python programming and software engineering practices; molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques
• Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work independently on complex scientific problems
