Classroom Teacher

Owen County Schools is seeking a Classroom Teacher. The job code varies based on the grade level: Preschool (2010), Kindergarten (2025), Primary (2030), Elementary (2040), Middle (2050), High (2060), and Exceptional Children (2095). The qualification required is a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate. The teacher reports to the Principal.

The job goal is to create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate students to acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes that society feels will contribute to their development into mature, able, and responsible men and women in accordance with each student's ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Performance responsibilities include:

• Performing duties assigned by the principal
• Creating and maintaining a conducive learning environment
• Developing daily lesson plans and instructional materials
• Translating lesson plans into learning experiences
• Guiding the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals
• Employing appropriate instructional methods and materials
• Assisting the administration in implementing policies
• Assessing student accomplishments and providing progress reports
• Seeking assistance from District specialists
• Establishing standards of pupil behavior
• Working with faculty colleagues to develop instructional programs
• Participating in teacher evaluation methods
• Supervising pupils in and out of classroom activities
• Maintaining grades and attendance
• Planning and supervising assignments for Instructional Assistants and volunteers
• Participating in parent/teacher conferences
• Maintaining accurate records
• Continuing personal professional growth
• Attending staff meetings and serving on committees
• Performing health services training
• Ensuring the safekeeping of school property
• Maintaining confidentiality
• Maintaining acceptable personal attendance
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Principal

Terms of employment include a salary set annually by the Board of Education, with performance evaluated in accordance with the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
