VP, Senior Director, People, Purpose & Brand (PP&B) Technology

Description The VP, Senior Director, PP&B Technology reports to the CIO, Corporate Technology and leads the technology strategy, portfolio, and organization supporting People, Purpose & Brand. This leader will have the opportunity to reshape a complex, global technology ecosystem and build the modern platforms, data capabilities, and AI-enabled experiences that will support Liberty Mutual’s workforce and business priorities through 2030 and beyond.The role is accountable for both transformation and execution, modernizing and simplifying the PP&B technology landscape while maintaining secure, stable, and resilient operations. The leader will oversee approximately $50 million in annual technology investment and partner closely with PP&B and Technology leaders to translate business priorities into measurable outcomes.This is a senior technology leadership role requiring credibility across engineering, enterprise platforms, data, architecture, and AI. Equally important is the ability to influence and challenge executives, navigate complexity, make difficult tradeoffs, and lead teams through sustained transformation. Transformation Through Technology ExecutionLead the modernization and simplification of the end-to-end PP&B technology ecosystem—core HR/HCM platforms, employee experience, people/workforce data and analytics, AI, integration, security, and the PP&B vendor landscapeDrive transformation across Talent, Total Rewards, Learning, Employee Experience, DEI, Communications, Brand, and Purpose in a mixed legacy and modern environmentMake durable platform decisions that reduce structural risk, improve resilience, and compound value through 2030 and beyond, balancing near-term delivery with multi-year modernizationEnsure PP&B system, technical, and product architectures stay aligned with business objectives2. Strategic Partnership & Constructive ChallengeAct as a trusted technology and transformation partner to PP&B leadership, co-owning outcomes, not just delivery, and shape how leaders think about technology, data, AI, and operating modelsChallenge functional leaders constructively and directly, bringing clarity to tradeoffs, sequencing, and change absorptionBuild partnerships with PP&B leaders, vendors, and technology peers, and move leaders forward even amid ambiguity or resistance3. Technology Excellence & Ecosystem LeadershipServe as an active member of the Corporate Technology leadership team, contributing PP&B perspective to Liberty Mutual's enterprise technology agendaTranslate enterprise strategy into PP&B execution, high-performing engineering, AI-enabled SDLC evolution, modern architecture, and resilient operationsLead adoption of modern engineering practices: product-centric delivery, platform thinking, automation, and AI across the SDLCApply and evolve enterprise standards for architecture, security, data, and AI, balancing consistency with the realities of PP&B transformationAnticipate technology evolution, inform the enterprise roadmap, and ensure PP&B decisions strengthen the broader Liberty Mutual technology ecosystem5. Talent, Culture & Change LeadershipBuild and lead a high-performing PP&B technology organization that thrives in sustained transformationManage staffing strategy (headcount, skills, experience, and internal/external mix), and hire, develop, and coach leaders who operate with accountability and resilience under pressureFoster a culture of direct communication, learning, inclusion, and execution excellence, and model courage in addressing conflict and making hard calls Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferredMore than 5 years in a leadership role requiredSenior technologist with a proven record leading large-scale, multi-year transformations in complex, regulated environments; experience modernizing core platforms, data ecosystems, and AI-enabled capabilities, preferably in People/HR technologyDemonstrated ability to influence, challenge, and partner with executives on operating models, sequencing, investment tradeoffs, and change absorption, addressing conflict directly for better outcomesHands-on credibility across modern engineering, cloud-native platforms, enterprise SaaS, data platforms, and AI-enabled systems, with experience operationalizing product-centric teams, platform thinking, automation, and responsible embedding of data and AI in the SDLC at scaleProven change leader who has built resilient, high-performing teams through sustained transformationStrong vendor and ecosystem leadership, selection, governance, and value realization across major HR/People platforms and delivery partners, with proven experience implementing 3rd-party HCM/enterprise platforms, cloud-native solutions, and modern data ecosystemsFinancial and operational acumen, including ownership of technology investment portfolios, multi-year budgeting (labor, software, compute), and blended workforce strategiesBusiness fluency across the PP&B domains, Talent/HR, Total Rewards, Learning, Employee Experience, Communications, Brand, and PurposeFinancial services, insurance, or other regulated-industry experience strongly preferred About Us Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
