Patient Services Technician (HS)

Job Title: Patient Services Technician (HS) Department: East | Outpatient Care East Lab Scope of Position The outpatient service centers include the phlebotomy draw stations located at Ross Heart Hospital, Martha Morehouse Pavilion, Outpatient Care Dublin, Outpatient Care Lewis Center, Outpatient Care Gahanna, Outpatient Care Upper Arlington, Outpatient Care New Albany, and Hilliard. They provide specimen collection, specimen processing, and point of care testing services within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. These patient service center locations are staffed from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and Saturday mornings in some locations to accommodate specific operational and patient service needs. Position Summary Performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture. Labels and processes specimens. Verifies accuracy and quality of collected specimens and dispatches them to appropriate testing locations. Provides training to others in these techniques. Handles test requisition entry and greets and directs patients through the lab. Collects complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures performed in the area. Performs point of care testing and ensures accuracy of results and quality control measures by maintaining equipment and instruments. Follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre‑employment urine drug screen collections. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent required. Certified phlebotomist preferred. EKG training through an accredited organization preferred.
