We are a busy, physician-owned Gastroenterology practice with 33 providers dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. As our practice continues to grow, including the addition of new providers and expanded procedure capacity, we are seeking compassionate, detail-oriented team members to join our clinical team.

This role is ideal for an RN or LPN who enjoys patient education, care coordination, and building relationships with patients. While the position includes occasional direct patient care in the clinic, it is primarily focused on telephone triage, patient communication, care coordination, and clinical documentation.

Position Summary

The Physician Nurse serves as a key clinical resource for patients and providers by coordinating care, responding to patient inquiries, triaging clinical concerns, and communicating treatment plans. Working closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical team members, this position helps ensure patients receive timely, accurate, and compassionate care.

This position is primarily office-based and utilizes the electronic medical record, phone, and other communication tools to support patient care and provider workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to patient calls, messages, pharmacy requests, and communications from hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare providers.
• Gather patient information, assess concerns, and communicate findings to the physician for review and direction.
• Coordinate patient care by carrying out provider orders and documenting appropriately in the electronic medical record.
• Educate patients regarding medications, test results, treatment plans, and procedure preparation instructions.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff to ensure timely completion of patient care tasks.
• Provide clinic coverage as needed, including rooming patients, obtaining vitals, and assisting with patient care activities.
• Complete pre-procedure assessments, checklists, and preparation reviews for scheduled procedures.
• Maintain accurate documentation while protecting patient confidentiality.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to infection prevention, safety, and organizational policies.
• Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment focused on exceptional patient experiences.

Qualifications

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Nebraska RN or LPN license.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer-based workflows.

Preferred:

• Gastroenterology experience.
• Two or more years of experience in clinical, ambulatory, or surgical setting.
• Telephone triage experience.
• Critical care, specialty practice, or care coordination experience.

Schedule

Full-Time | 36-40 Hours per Week

• Monday-Friday
• Flexible start time between 7:30am and 8:30am
• Typical end time between 4:30pm and 5:00pm

Enjoy most Friday afternoons off!

Hybrid remote work may be available following successful completion of training and demonstrated ability to work independently.
