Description:
Unit Notes: Department: PCU
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care.
Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract.
RN's must pass an exam during orientation.
This is an open book exam on skills learned.
Candidates are provided with necessary resources to pass.
A score of 90% or higher is required to pass, or termination will occur.
Driver's license is required for submission and will be used to determine candidate eligibility.
Beds: 35
Ratios: 1:4-5
Common diagnoses/types of patients: Adults and geriatrics, cardiac, nephrology, strokes, diabetes, continuous EEG monitoring.
RNs are required to titrate drips.
Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications.
Charge Nurse is present on each shift.
The Charge Nurse will have an assignment.
Patient care techs are available on this unit with ratios of 1:10 or 2:20.
Duties of the patient care techs are to assist nursing staff.
Shifts & Scheduling: 0630-1900, 1830-0700
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirements: Every third holiday
Is there call or standby requirement: No
Floating Requirements: Medical floors, ICU, or rehab
How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation: The first week consists of onboarding, followed by 1-2 days of orientation on the floor.
Additional Notes: This is a fast-paced floor.
Attributes that will help a nurse be successful on this unit include a positive attitude, helping others, good communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to problem solve.
RTO needed upfront: 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract.
Additional RTO will not be approved.
Client can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
