Youth Program Coordinator

The Youth Program Coordinator is a full-time in-person position at the Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) and reports directly to the After School Program Manager. The coordinator should implement the ANHC Ten Universal Values in their work and support the ANHC mission of “ANHC preserves and strengthens the traditions, languages, and arts of Alaska’s Native Peoples through statewide collaboration, celebration, and education.” The After School Program is intended to provide year-round programming and promote middle school and high school success for Alaska Native youth. The program provides opportunities to learn cultural knowledge and values through interactive, hands‑on activities and coordinates homework assistance. Coordinator responsibilities are working closely with the After School Program Manager to help ensure execution of daily activities for youth by preparing program supplies, engaging with contractors, assisting with hands‑on teaching and coordinating transportation. The coordinator will track data for reporting, assist families with applications, and conduct light meal preparation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Must be able to work later hours, typically 11AM-7PM. Must be able to drive youth in a company van. Coordinate project activities, resources, equipment, and information. Work with the project manager to ensure the execution of the project plan. Assist families with necessary applications and forms to participate in programs. Communicate and interact professionally with Alaska Native youth in middle school and high school. Maintain relationships with Anchorage School District, educators, tutors and contractors. Track participation and daily attendance. Design and implement electronic applications and surveys. Maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports. Occasionally support Cultural Tourism with Alaska Native dance and game demonstrations, Alaska map overviews, cultural presentations, and Village Site tours. Stay on task, take initiative, be proactive, be creative, and problem solve. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Proven work experience as a coordinator or similar role. Ability to break down a cultural activity into steps for youth to follow. Ability to follow written direction. Familiarity with materials used for a variety of Alaska Native cultural activities. Have basic writing and public speaking skills. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite. Be able to prepare reports in Word and Excel. Hands‑on experience with educational projects. High School Degree or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Solid organizational skills, including multi‑tasking and time management. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to operate advanced office equipment such as personal computer. Skill in the use of copier and other office equipment. KNOWLEDGE Have knowledge of Alaska Native cultures, history, Tribal governance and politics, the Alaska Native Claims & Settlement Act, and Alaska State history, or be willing to research the topics to learn or receive training. Have understanding of ANHC’s mission, direction, and history or be willing to research the topics to learn or receive training. Familiarity with local available service agencies. Demonstrated understanding of FERPA and HIPAA regulations and requirements or be willing to research the topics to learn or receive training. ABILITIES Receive directions and guidance from department supervisors. Work as a team or independently. Ability to solve problems individually and seek assistance from the supervisor as needed. Contributes to department growth and goals to improve services and quality of the educational programs. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Additional duties assigned based on needs of the business. WORKING CONDITIONS WEATHER Indoors: Primarily in an environmentally controlled office, on or off-site. Outdoors: Ability to work in all Alaska weather conditions. Quiet to moderate, with occasional periods of extreme loudness. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 35 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. #J-18808-Ljbffr
